With any commission, I would discuss with you in detail not only the subject matter, but the weather and light conditions and any other relevant detail. I would prepare a “preliminary sketch” in graphite pencil for you to approve or discuss changes prior to starting the painting.

Pricing would also be agreed prior to commencing the work, which will include framing. You would be under no obligation to purchase the completed painting if you were not happy with it, however, I may ask for a deposit prior to starting.

I would add that I have undertaken numerous commissions in the past, and my clients have always been delighted to accept the completed painting.

The copyright to all work, whether commission or other remains with the artist, unless specifically agreed in writing to the contrary.
