The exhibition, A Voyage Into the Past, of Tasmanian born maritime artist Ray Rowe opened last night with great success. The exhitibion, in the Steele Gallery at Falmouth Arts Centre runs from 10:30am to 5:00pm until Saturday 17th June. Click here to view images of the opening night

With 5 works sold during the packed Private Viewing last night, Ray is sure to quickly establish himself a reputation in the world of maritime art.

Ray's paintings capture not only the essence of life at sea, but the sea itself in the variety of historical subjects shown at this, his first formal exhibition.

Exhibition 2006

A Voyage Into the Past

Ray’s first formal exhibition will be held in the Steele Gallery at Falmouth Arts Centre http://www.falmoutharts.org in Church Street, Falmouth between 13 th-18 th June 2006. Entry is free and all are welcome.

The exhibition will include 10 paintings and 6 monochrome “cameo” sketches. The paintings cover a wide range of historical craft from 1100 BC to 1930 AD.

The cameo sketches are of various nautical subjects; The Mainsheet, Sailmaker’s Palm and Needle, The Gaff, The Punt, Caulking Mallet and Irons.

The exhibition will coincide with the 3rd annual Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival, taking place at numerous venues along the Falmouth waterfront from 16th to 18th June 2006.

A number of local and visiting shanty groups will be performing at pubs, on the quayside, in Events Square (outside the National Maritime Museum Cornwall) and even outside the Falmouth Arts Centre.

Come along and enjoy! Join in or just relish the Cornish hospitality, singing and a great atmosphere. The event is organised by members of the local shanty group, Falmouth Shout in aid of the RNLI.
