No Place for Amateurs
One of the most dangerous places to work on a square-rigger is out on the bowsprit. One slip and a hapless seaman would plunge into the water only to be run down by his own vessel.

Even in relatively calm weather, a flogging headsail could knock a man off. In bad weather, it was positively lethal, certainly no place for amateurs.
