| The 80ft ‘Elco’ boats made up the bulk of the PT squadrons based in the Pacific theatre during WWII.
Despite their invaluable role in disrupting Japanese supply lines, the US War Office regarded them as expendable.
This scene shows PT109, under the command of Lt J F Kennedy, being attacked by enemy aircraft. Of the 2,000 PT boats built, those that were not lost in action were stripped and burnt. Only 5 survived the war.
